DIETETIC INTERNSHIP PROJECTS

Portfolio of Work

CLINICAL CASE PRESENTATION

An oral presentation integrating evidence-based practice and medical diagnosis with nutritional intervention. I provided a presentation focusing on a malnourished patient with end-stage renal disease requiring hemodialysis. I integrated nutrition support techniques, the new KDOQQI guidelines, and systematic reviews and scientific literature to successfully present this complex patient.

JOURNAL CLUB

This was an oral presentation focusing on new scientific literature that pertains to nutrition practices. I presented on enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) versus standard recovery for elective gastric cancer surgery. This presentation provided evidence-based enhanced recommendations to implement into practice and started a discussion on the current methods versus the new guidance.

SENIOR PROJECT

Senior Project is a directed study collaborating with a fellow dietetic intern and Tufts Dental School faculty to write a children’s book encompassing the ideas of nutrition and dental health to use it as an intervention method for a focus group of children ages 7-9 years old. This project spanned the length of 12 months and included writing a children’s book, writing and submitting an IRB proposal, collaborating with an illustrator to bring the book to life, collaborating with faculty and staff for feedback and guidance, conducting a focus group of 5 children, and writing a summary of our findings.

NATIONAL BREASTFEEDING WEEK POSTER

Created an educational poster to be displayed in the Mother Infant Unit during National Breastfeeding Week. It included evidence-based recommendations on the benefits of breastfeeding for both mom and baby, the composition of breastmilk, proper maternal diet, and guide on feeding the infant during the first year of life.
